Asa J. Swallows
February 17, 1947 - August 15, 2015

Asa J. Swallows, age 68, of Battle Creek, died Saturday August 15, 2015 at his home. He was born February 17, 1947 in Battle Creek, to Acie and Effie (Cox) Swallows and was a lifelong resident.

Following graduation from Lakeview High School in 1965, Asa served in Vietnam with the United States Marine Corp.

Asa married the former Sharon F. Bosley in 1969. She survives, along with daughters Amy (Travis) Sinks, of East Peoria, IL, Andrea (Jason) Broughton of Battle Creek and Angie Swallows of Battle Creek, his father, Acie Swallows, of Battle Creek, a son, Eric VanZandt, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren, sisters, Patricia (Jim) Lindley, of Illinois, Faye (Richard) DePue, of Grand Rapids, and Linda College of Battle Creek, a brother, Gary (Carolyn) Swallows, of Phoenix, AZ. Asa was preceded in death by his mother Effie.

Asa had been employed by Ralston’s for 20 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post #298, and the Vietnam Veterans of America. Asa enjoyed golf, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his family.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, 223 N. Bedford Rd. Funeral services will be held 12:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
